City Airport forced to close following emergency landing
Belfast City Airport was forced to close for two hours today after a light aircraft made an emergency landing because of undercarriage failure.
The plane, a privately owned Cessna, was forced to land heavily after its undercarriage failed on a return flight from Paris. The problem occurred shortly before 2pm, however the two people on board escape injury.
Passengers waiting to fly from the airport were temporarily evacuated from the main lounges and two inbound flights were diverted to the International Airport as the plane blocked the main runway.
Engineers worked to remove the aircraft so that flying could resume and the airport reopened shortly before 4pm.
