Two Teenagers Charged Following Serious Sexual Assault In Ballymena

Two teenage boys have been charged with attempted rape following a serious sexual assault on a teenage girl in Ballymena on Saturday 07 June.

Detectives from the PSNI's Public Protection Branch confirmed the charges. The incident occurred in the Clonavon Terrace area sometime between 7:30pm and 10:30pm on Saturday evening.

Both teenagers will appear before Coleraine Magistrates’ Court today, Monday 09 June.

As is standard procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.

Detective Inspector Olphert reported that specialist officers are providing support to the girl, who has been left "extremely distressed and traumatised" by the incident.

Police have also urged the public to refrain from speculating or sharing information on social media, describing it as "not helpful towards the ongoing investigation."

Detectives have appealed for anyone who was in the Clonavon Terrace or Waveney Road area on Saturday evening and witnessed what happened or noticed anything suspicious to contact police.

Family's grief one year on
On the first anniversary of the death of Catholic teenager Michael McIlveen, his family has spoken of their continuing grief and have had a reunion with ex-DUP mayor Councillor Tommy Nicholl. The 15-year-old died after a vicious assault in Ballymena. Five teenagers have been remanded in custody charged with his murder.

Carnlough man charged with killing teenagers in road crash
A 32-year-old man has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving following the death of two teenagers in Co Antrim last month. Paul Jude Johnston, of Ballymena Road, Carnlough, was also charged with driving while unfit through drink or drugs, after the car he was driving hit a wall on the Marine Road in Carnlough last month.
