Salmon deaths a disaster, say anglers
More than 600 salmon have been poisoned in the River Strule near Omagh according to anglers.
An investigation into the allegations led to 200 adult salmon being removed from the river last Friday, however since then a further 400 dead fish have been removed from part of the river near Cappagh Church.
Jackie Hamilton, of Omagh Anglers, described the situation as a "disaster" and said that it could take up to 10 years before the river makes a full recovery.
"As far as fishing and fish stocks are concerned, it is a complete disaster, something I have never witnessed before in my lifetime," he added.
An investigation into the source of the pollution is continuing. However, the results from water samples are not yet known.

Culture, Arts and Leisure Minister, Michael McGimpsey, today emphasised his determination to restore salmon runs in the River Bush. The Minister visited the River Bush Salmon Station where he viewed work being carried out to tackle the decline in the numbers of stock – a problem not confined to Northern Ireland.
