Appeal Following Spate Of Street Robberies In Belfast City Centre

The PSNI have issued an appeal for information following a series of street robberies reported in the city centre in the early hours of Saturday, 5 July 2025.

Investigations are currently underway, with police actively exploring potential links between the incidents.

At approximately 04:55, a man aged in his 20s reported being in the Great Victoria Street area when three men, emerging from Stroud Street, confronted him. Two of the assailants physically assaulted him while the third was a lookout. Threatening the man with a knife they demanded money, before attacking him again, taking his wallet and fleeing the scene in the direction of the city centre.

A short time later, at about 05:00, a man aged in his 30s, was reportedly also attacked in the Stroud Street area by two men, claiming to have a knife. The victim sustained a head injury and later received hospital treatment.

Less than an hour later, at around 05:50, a woman in her 20s was targeted in the Ormeau Avenue area. She described being approached by two men; one demanded her handbag, asserting he had a knife and making threats. Fearing for her safety, she complied and handed over her bag.

Detective Sergeant Leeman provided a description of the suspects, indicating they are believed to be in their twenties with Belfast accents. They were observed wearing dark clothing and trainers.

"It is absolutely unacceptable that people going about their business should be robbed and assaulted," stated Detective Sergeant Leeman. "This was a terrifying experience for the victims and we're really thankful that, at this time, none of the injuries sustained are believed to be serious."

He continued: "Our enquiries are ongoing and we are actively exploring a possible link between these three reports. We would encourage anyone who may have witnessed suspicious behaviour in and around these times to contact us. The city would have been quiet so early in the morning, and unusual activity may have stood out."

Authorities are particularly interested in hearing from anyone with relevant CCTV, dashcam, or other footage that could assist the investigation.

Members of the public with information are urged to contact the police on 101, quoting reference 267 05/07/25. Alternatively, reports can be submitted online via the non-emergency reporting form at www.psni.police.uk/makeareport/, or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or www.crimestoppers-uk.org/.
