Man Arrested On Suspicion Of Drug Driving and Child Restraint Offences
District Support Team officers in L'Derry arrested a 42-year-old man on Sunday night, 6 July 2025, on suspicion of several traffic-related offences.
Police were alerted to a vehicle, which had a child passenger, at approximately 22:20 in the Springtown area. After stopping the car and speaking with the male driver, officers carried out a preliminary drug test using a drug-driving detection kit. The man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of driving when unfit through drink or drugs, having no driving licence, using a motor vehicle without insurance, and driving a passenger car with an unrestrained child. He has since been released on bail to allow for additional enquiries and will return for further questioning at a later date.
Chief Inspector Pearce took the opportunity to remind all road users about the 'Fatal Five' and the severe consequences of disregarding these essential rules. "Don't drink or take drugs and drive; slow down; don't be careless; always wear your seat belt and never use your mobile phone while driving," he urged.
He reinforced the collective responsibility for road safety: "Road safety is everyone's responsibility and you'll see our officers on patrol conducting checks to ensure everyone on the road is legal, that their vehicles are roadworthy and that everyone is playing their part in keeping our roads safe."
