Communities Minister Welcomes Social Housing Cash Boost

The Competition and Markets Authority's (CMA) announcement that £100m will be split across the UK to directly support the delivery of social and affordable housing has been welcomed by Communities Minister Gordon Lyons.

Northern Ireland's share of the money, which is expected to be around £3.4 million, will be used to deliver homes "as soon as possible and preferably within this financial year," according to the Minister.

He said: "Social Housing is a priority for me as Housing Minister and my Executive colleagues as outlined in the Programme for Government and the Housing Supply Strategy. We are doing everything possible to deliver more social and affordable housing. This additional funding will assist us to deliver more homes for households in need."

The UK-wide payment of £100m is made up of contributions from seven GB-based housebuilders, who have offered a package of commitments which the CMA will now consult on until 24 July 2025.
