Magherafelt Security Alert Ends After Controlled Explosion

A security alert in the Golf Terrace area of Magherafelt has now ended after Ammunition Technical Officers (ATO) carried out a controlled explosion on a suspicious object.

The alert began after police received a report of the object outside a residential property at around 7.20pm on Saturday, 2nd August.

A safety operation was immediately put in place, with the road closed to motorists and a number of local residents evacuated from their homes overnight. The ATO determined that the object may have been a viable explosive device before carrying out the controlled explosion, allowing residents to return to their homes on Sunday morning.
