Parades Commission amends Ardoyne decision
The Parades Commission is to allow members of a loyal order parade to pass through a predominantly Catholic area of north Belfast this weekend.
Members of the Ligoniel Walkers Club are to be bussed along the Ardoyne Road on Saturday on the way to the main Apprentice Boys demonstration in Londonderry.
The decision is a slight amendment to an original judgement made by the Commission which banned the Walkers Club and an accompanying band from parading through the area following recent trouble between local residents and security forces after a similar Orange Order parade on July 12th.
Commenting on today's decision, the Commission said: "We are content that participants traverse the restricted part of the route by bus, which would be beneficial to the overall management of the parade.
"The commission hopes that the Parade Forum's offer of dialogue with residents of Ardoyne will enable a local accommodation to be reached in the case of future parades in this area."
The marching season largely passed off without major incident this year. However, there were clashes between demonstrators and police at the Ardoyne shops following the the return leg of the Orange Order's feeder parade on July 12.
