Traffic And Travel Advice Ahead Of M3 Lagan Bridge Closure
The M3 Lagan Bridge will be closed on the westbound carriageway for essential maintenance this weekend.
The closure will be in effect from 9pm on Friday, 15 August, until 6am on Monday, 18 August 2025.
The road closure will affect the M3 from Bridge End to M2 Foreshore, and there will be no access to the bridge from the A2 Sydenham Bypass or the Middlepath Street on-slip. Diversionary routes will be clearly signed on the approaches to the closure.
The essential safety work is required to replace a further four bearings under the bridge which are showing signs of corrosion. The work is specialist and requires the bridge to be jacked up, so it cannot be completed overnight. The Department has scheduled the work over the summer period when traffic is generally lighter to minimise disruption. Road users are asked to plan ahead for their journeys, consider an alternative route away from the city where possible, or use public transport. Anyone travelling to Belfast International Airport or attending events at Custom House Square or Belfast Mela should factor the closure into their travel plans and allow extra time. For traffic information and journey planning, the public can visit Trafficwatchni or the Translink website.
