Paramilitary-style attack maims man

Police are trying to establish a motive for an attack on a man in Co Londonderry at the weekend.

The 41-year-old victim was attacked and dragged across a road to a patch of grass in the Brandywell Avenue area of the city where he was shot in both ankles and wrists at around 10pm on Saturday.

The man is currently being treated at Altnagelvin Hospital where his condition is described as stable. A police spokesperson said the victim would probably be left maimed for the rest of his life because of his injuries.

Detectives have appealed for anyone with information to contact them at Strand Road.
