Two arrested hours before Co Antrim fair

Two people arrested by police as trouble flared in Ballycastle prior to today's opening of the Auld Lammas Fair have been charged.

The duo were charged with disorderly behaviour, assaulting police and resisting arrrest. One of the men was further charged with possession of a class C drug.

Police used CS spray as violence erupted just hours before the beginning of one of Ireland's oldest traditional country fairs. The incident has been referred to the Police Ombudsman.

A group of around 50 people threw missiles at police during disturbances in the North Street area of the town on Monday, shortly before the start of the annual Bank Holiday fair in the town.

Tens of thousands of visitors are expected descend on the town for the 400-year-old fair with police reminding motorists that the town centre will be closed to traffic from 8am until 10pm on Monday and Tuesday with diversions in place.

Man stabbed in Ballycastle
A man has been stabbed following a second night of trouble in Ballycastle. The victim was assaulted during disturbances in Fairhill Street at about 9pm on Monday however his injuries are not thought to be life threatening. A juvenile was arrested in connection with the incident but has since been released on bail.

Man Arrested Over Murder Of George Gilmore
A 39-year-old man has been arrested by police investigating the murder of George Gilmore. Mr Gilmore, aged 44, was shot in the neck in Carrickfergus on Monday, 13 March. He died from his injuries in hospital the following day, 14 March. The suspect was detained in Co Antrim on Wednesday, 12 April, and is being questioned at Musgrave police station.

A police officer has been disciplined after failing to properly investigate an allegation that a man annoyed by children playing football near his car, attacked a 12-year-old boy by kicking him on the hand.

Man's Body Recovered From Bangor Marina
Police have launched an investigation after the body of a man was recovered from Bangor Marina on Wednesday, 13 May. Police received a report that a man had entered the water shortly after 10.15am. Emergency services and police attended the scene and the body was recovered from the water. Police are not treating the death as suspicious.
