Narrow Water memorial vandalised

A memorial in honour of those killed by an IRA bomb 25-years-ago has been vandalised just two days after it was unveiled.

The monument at Narrow Water, near Warrenpoint, was damaged in the early hours of Sunday morning while graffiti was also daubed on items in the area.

Crosses and wreaths were laid at the recent service which commemorated the 18 soldiers and one civilian killed in the bomb attack.

UUP Assembly member Danny Kennedy said the incident was another attack on the Protestant community.

"Wreaths and crosses at the memorial were discovered strewn about the area and there was graffiti calling for Brits out," Mr Kennedy said.

“We thought that the local population would respect the laying of wreaths and remembrance of the dead.

“This is absolutely sickening. People are almost at a state of despair learning of this disgraceful attack coming straight after the destruction of Commons Orange Hall outside Newry.”
