Public office artwork goes on display

An exhibition of artwork housed in public buildings in Belfast and Dublin has been opened at the Linen Hall Library on Wednesday.

‘Currents – An exhibition of recent acquisitions’ contains 40 works assembled from the collections of the Civil Service in Northern Ireland and the Office of Public Works in Dublin.

The pieces on display feature a wide range of styles and media including landscape, figural and abstract paintings, graphics and contemporary photography by Irish artists including John Cronin, Carol Graham, James MacKeown and Abigail O’Brien.

Commenting on the exhibition at the launch, Finance Minister Ian Pearson said: "These pieces normally reside in public buildings, North and South. The Department of Finance & Personnel has responsibility for maintaining the Civil Service art collection in Northern Ireland, a responsibility mirrored by OPW in Dublin.

“This is the seventh such venture by the two governments and it is a pleasure once again for us to be able to share these pieces with a wider audience.”

The exhibition continues at the Linen Hall Library until September 24 and admission is free.
