Book of Condolence opened for Beslan victims
A Book of Condolence has been opened at Belfast City Hall for victims of the Beslan massacre.
The Lord Mayor of Belfast Councillor Tom Ekin described last week's events in which around 330 people were killed at a local school in the Russian town of Beslan as "brutal savagery".
The siege at the school ended in chaos on Friday after a four-hour running battle between captors and Russian security forces.
A two-day state of mourning has begun across Russia to commemorate the victims of the atrocity - the majority of whom were children.
The Lord Mayor said: “The people of Belfast are only too familiar with the terrible legacy of terrorist atrocities, and our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Beslan, and particularly those many, many parents who have lost children in this heinous atrocity.”
The Book of Condolence will be available for signing until 5pm on Monday and then during normal City Hall opening hours – 8.30am to 5pm Monday to Thursday and 8.30am to 4.30pm on Friday.

The PSNI have condemned the assault of four police officers when they were attacked by young people in West Belfast. At around 6:50pm on Saturday, 06 April, police received a report in relation to community concerns that a large group of young people had congregated in Falls Park and that alcohol was being consumed by children.
