Derry police station sprayed with gunfire

Strand Road police station in Derry city centre has come under attack this morning from a gunman who sprayed the building with automatic gunfire.

No one was injured in the attack but several vehicles were damaged.

A lone gunman opened fire with what police believe was an assault rifle from the junction of Queen Street and Asylum Road.

The attack happened at approximately 9.30am and a number of builders working in the station had to take cover.

A maroon car, believed to have been the gunman's getaway car, was later found burnt out in the Brandywell area of the city.
