Belfast student wins 'most enterprising student’ accolade
Belfast woman Christine Magill is celebrating today after winning the accolade of 'Northern Ireland East’s Most Enterprising Student'.
Ms Magill scooped the prize at a recent event in the Europa Hotel after facing down stiff competition from fellow undergraduates in the Shell Technology Enterprise Programme (Step) 2004.
The Step programme places undergraduates within small companies to carry out project based summer placements. Local companies can benefit the new ideas and initiative of undergraduates, while the students can explore opportunities within the small business sector.
Christine, who is studying Interactive Media Design at the University of Dundee, completed her placement with branding consultancy firm DIMEX.
During her placement, she developed and implemented a "dynamic new sales tool" showcasing the portfolio of creative services offered by the company.
Eamon Mulvenna, Head of Entrepreneurship Development Team with Invest Northern Ireland, said: “The Step scheme is an extremely worthwhile programme that helps young people across Northern Ireland to develop the attributes and entrepreneurial skills that employers will be looking for in the future."
Christine, along with the NW regional winner Lindy Harper from Ballymoney, will now go forward to compete in the National Finals scheduled in London on 6 October.
