Belfast call centre expansion to create 250 jobs
A £1.9 million call centre investment is to create 250 new jobs in Belfast, it was announced today.
Leading global IT firm HCL BPO is behind the investment which will see the expansion of the company's Apollo Road operation in Belfast.
Commenting on the decision, Ranjit Narasimhan, Chief Operating Officer of HCL in Belfast, said: “We are expanding services in Belfast to enable us to develop opportunities that we have identified in European markets, especially Great Britain, for a quality provider of contact services to major clients in the retail, banking and commercial sectors.
“Belfast is an integral part of our business development strategy which now offers clients a blended and particularly cost-effective delivery of contact services. This strategy enables clients to access higher value added services from Belfast, together with those from lower cost centres in India.”
Economy Minister Barry Gardiner said: “This investment is significant as it reverses the trend of many similar call centres which have relocated outside Northern Ireland.
"Here we have a leading company from India investing in Northern Ireland. HCL’s global strategy is to increase its business in Europe and the US. This further consolidates Belfast as its key European base. It will provide good quality, knowledge-based jobs in a New Targeting Social Need area. It will also offer recruits and existing employees extensive training opportunities.
HCL currently employs over 13,000 people worldwide, including a software development operation in England, and has sales in excess of $1 billion.

192 Jobs Announced At Fujitsu, L'Derry
192 jobs are to be created at Fujitsu’s Business Services Centre at Timber Quay in L'Derry. The jobs, including 177 full-time permanent positions and 15 business apprenticeships, are being supported by funding from Invest NI of over £990,000. The move follows a visit to Japan by the First and deputy First Minister this month.

67 jobs are to be created at a new legal centre in Belfast. Law firm Allen & Overy has received funding by Invest Northern Ireland of £348,400 to help create the jobs, which will be located at its existing Support and Legal Services Centre in Belfast. 43 of the jobs will be created as a result of role transfers from its US and European offices.
