Council Rolls Out Colour-Coded Dog Control Signage Across Borough
Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council is continuing the phased roll-out of new Dog Control Order signage at parks, open spaces and other Council-managed sites across the Borough.
The colour-coded signs are designed to make local rules clear for dog owners. Depending on the location, they indicate where dogs are allowed off lead, where they must be kept on a lead, where dogs are not permitted, and where other specific controls apply.
Installation is being carried out in stages, with priority areas addressed first.
While the programme is under way, owners can check designated areas and the rules applicable to each site via online maps at antrimandnewtownabbey.gov.uk/dog-control-maps.
Dog owners are urged to familiarise themselves with the requirements before entering or exercising their dog in any area and to look out for the new colour-coded signs as they appear.
The Dog Control Orders aim to support responsible ownership and ensure Council spaces are safe and enjoyable for everyone. Breaches can result in penalties of up to £1,000.

Hero Army Dog Handlers Honoured
Murdered soldiers who worked with specialist 'sniffer' dogs during the Northern Ireland Troubles have been remembered. The 'Red Paw' and its work across Northern Ireland was the subject of a special memorial service held in England at the weekend. It was in honour of the six dog handlers and two sniffer dogs killed in Northern Ireland.

Dangerous Dog Owners 'May Be Jailed'
Dog owners are now being faced with tougher legislation aimed at better control of domestic pets. Heavy jail sentences and fines have been included in the revision of the statute books and, for the first time, these will even include laws on dog attacks taking place on other domestic animals.
