Springfield Road gas leak emergency ends

The Springfield Road in west Belfast has been re-opened following a gas leak emergency early this morning.

Emergency services were called to the scene after a 12 inch main pipeline was ruptured by contractors in the area.

Local residents, including school children, were moved away from the area as the Fire Service and Phoenix Gas engineers dealt with the situation.

The engineers used specialist gas detecting equipment to check houses in the area which have now been given the all-clear.
