Lambeg Coca-Cola factory to close
Around 500 jobs look set to go after Coca-Cola announced it is to close its plant in Lambeg.
The company also plans to close its Dublin facility with the loss of up to 600 jobs after it announced its intention to build a brand new facility which will service the whole of Ireland.
A Usdaw union spokesperson for workers in Lambeg described the situation as “a very difficult time for our members”.
Usdaw Area Organiser Kieran Smyth said: “We have already met the company and stated our members’ case that they want the new facility to be built in Northern Ireland. It’s important that the workers are fully consulted and kept informed throughout this process.”
Coca-Cola said a decision on the location of the new site would be made within weeks.

Officers hurt in road collision
Police are appealing for information after a police landrover was struck by a stolen jeep in Dunmurry on Sunday. Three police officers were injured in the collision which occurred on the Bell Steele Road at around 2.15pm.

Polls have opened in Ireland for the country's referendum on the 8th Amendment, which aims to reform the state's abortion laws. The 8th Amendment, introduced in 1983, effectively bans abortion in Ireland – termination is only allowed if the woman's life is at risk. Polls opened at 7am and will close tonight at 10pm.
