Lambeg Coca-Cola factory to close
Around 500 jobs look set to go after Coca-Cola announced it is to close its plant in Lambeg.
The company also plans to close its Dublin facility with the loss of up to 600 jobs after it announced its intention to build a brand new facility which will service the whole of Ireland.
A Usdaw union spokesperson for workers in Lambeg described the situation as “a very difficult time for our members”.
Usdaw Area Organiser Kieran Smyth said: “We have already met the company and stated our members’ case that they want the new facility to be built in Northern Ireland. It’s important that the workers are fully consulted and kept informed throughout this process.”
Coca-Cola said a decision on the location of the new site would be made within weeks.

Maysfield Leisure Centre to close next year
Belfast's oldest leisure centre is set to close next year following a decision reached in Belfast City Hall. Councillors meeting on Tuesday evening have opted to replace the aging Maysfield Leisure Centre in east Belfast with a new facility in the south of the city.
