Woman escapes injury as car plunges onto lough shore
A woman has escaped serious injury after her car plunged onto the shores of Carlingford Lough in Co Down on Thursday.
The woman was travelling towards Warrenpoint at around 7.50pm when she was forced to swerve to avoid a horse and cart.
The resulting swerve saw her car leave the road, overturn and land on its roof on the shore of the Lough.
The woman was eventually rescued by a local fire brigade unit who said that had the tide been in, the results of the crash would have been more tragic.
She was taken to hospital but her injuries are not thought to be serious.
