Arsonists to blame for Belfast blaze
Police have confirmed that a fire, which caused millions of pounds worth of damage to a major building in Belfast city centre, was started deliberately.
The four-storey building, which contains Waterstone's bookstore and Goldsmith's jewellers, was severely damaged in the fire which was discovered in the early hours of last Thursday morning.
While no major re-building work is likely to be needed following an examination by conservation architects, thousands of books, worth hundreds of thousands of pounds, were destroyed in the fire.
More than 100 firefighters were involved in the operation which left approximately 25% of the second floor and 50% of the third floor damaged, while all of the fourth floor and roof structure were destroyed.
