Officer injured in hammer assault
A police officer has been injured after being struck with a hammer in Co Armagh at the weekend.
The incident occurred after officers were called to the Thomas Street area of Portadown on Sunday after a Portuguese man reported damage to his car.
When officers arrived they saw a man being assaulted in a separate incident nearby. When they went to investigate one policeman was struck on the head with a hammer while trying to stop the man being assaulted.
Two men, aged 28 and 43, were arrested and are to appear before a court in Craigavon on Monday charged with assault, intimidation and criminal damage.
The condition of the injured officer is not yet known.

Man Charged Over Vehicle Hijacking In L'Derry
Police investigating the hijacking of a vehicle in L'Derry have charged a man with a number of offences. The 26-year-old is accused of common assault, driving whilst unfit and using a motor vehicle without insurance, in relation to a hijacking in the city on Monday 04 March. He is due to appear at L'Derry Magistrates Court today, 06 March.

Superintendent Mark McEwan, the Derry City & Strabane District Commander said he believed the weapon, with ammunition, had been intended to be used to attcked police officers.
