NI lottery winner given ‘second chance’
Northern Ireland's biggest lottery winner has revealed she is winning her battle with cancer.
Iris Jeffrey, 58, bought her winning ticket in July but failed to look at again until the following month when she realised she had scooped the £20 million jackpot prize.
In a statement released on Monday, the west Belfast mother-of-two said she was glad to be in remission and felt she had been given "a second chance" in life.
“I can't deny it has been a struggle but I have had tremendous support from both sides of the community here in Northern Ireland and I am looking to build up my strength in the months ahead,” she said.
"Once again I want to thank all my family, friends and neighbours for the hundreds of get well cards, flowers and beautiful prayers that I have received over the recent weeks, this support and encouragement has kept me going during some dark times. I now just want to look forward to the future.
"I now really want to enjoy time with my family and my adorable new grandson.”
Mrs Jeffrey’s winning numbers of 6, 27, 33, 38, 45, 47 saw her become the biggest single winner in the Lottery's 10-year history.
