Gang shoot man in east Belfast

A man has been shot after being set upon by a gang of men in east Belfast on Wednesday night.

The victim was walking home through an alley off the Woodstock Road at about 11.40pm when he was attacked and shot in the leg.

The man's injuries are not thought to be life-threatening and police are investigating a motive for the shooting.

Elsewhere in the city, four police officers were injured after being attacked by stone-throwers in west Belfast.

They came under attack in Servia Street at about 7.30pm on Wednesday after a stolen car was in collision with their police vehicle.

The driver of the stolen vehicle made off on foot while the injured officers were treated in hospital for minor injuries.

Police shoot pit-bull terriers during west Belfast attack
Police in west Belfast have shot two pit-bull terriers that attacked a woman and her pet dog yesterday afternoon. The incident happened at around 2pm on the Upper Suffolk Road in the west of the city. The woman was uninjured during the attack, however it is understood that her collie died from its injuries.
