Efforts continue in bid to free NI woman
Efforts are continuing in a bid to free a Northern Ireland woman who was one of three people kidnapped in Afghanistan on Thursday.
Annetta Flanigan was one of three foreign UN election workers kidnapped in the Afghanistan capital Kabul yesterday by a group calling itself the Army of Muslims.
The group admitted that they were holding Mrs Flanigan outside Kabul along with her UN colleagues, a woman from Kosovo and a male diplomat from the Philippines.
Mrs Flanigan, who is from the Co Armagh town of Richhill, was providing technical assistance for parliamentary elections due to be held next April when the incident occurred.
A graduate of Queen's University in Belfast, Mrs Flanigan, who has joint British and Irish nationality, has worked as a solicitor in Portadown as well as spending time working in Bosnia and Rwanda.
Foreign Secretary Jack Straw said that the government had already been in touch with her family, and that it was doing all it could to secure her release.

Former North West Mayor Dies
Tributes have been paid to a former Coleraine mayor who passed away yesterday. Councillor Liz Johnston (pictured) was described as an "extraordinary woman". Mrs Johnson had served on the council as an Ulster Unionist member for 16 years.

Attempted Carjacking In West Belfast
Police are investigating an attempted carjacking in west Belfast on Tuesday, November 19th. At around 5:30pm, a man entered a parked car at Hillhead Court and attempted to steal it. A woman passenger was assaulted when she resisted the man's demands. The suspect, described as a man in his 20s wearing all black, fled the scene on foot.

Woman Found Unconscious On Co Down Road
A woman has been found unconscious on a road in County Down. The woman, aged in her 50s, was discovered on the Sheepland Road at around 4.30am on Sunday. She was taken to hospital where she is believed to be in a serious condition.

Flanigan to return home after short holiday
The UN worker from County Armagh, Annetta Flanigan, who was held captive for 27 days in Afghanistan is expected to return home after a short holiday. Ms Flanigan is reported to have left the Afghan capital at the weekend for a break with her husband Jose, before going on to visit family and friends in Richhill, County Armagh.
