People increasingly 'satisfied' with NI Health Service
The number of people satisfied with Northern Ireland’s health and social care services has increased over the past year, the Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety has claimed.
In their ‘Public Attitudes To Health And Personal Social Services In Northern Ireland (2004)’ survey, the Department revealed that those satisfied or very satisfied with local services had increased from 74% in 2003 to 79% in 2004.
Other findings showed that 94% of respondents were satisfied or very satisfied with their GP while 96% of people rated the general attitude of pharmacists and their counter staff as excellent or good.
For hospital services, however, the main areas of dissatisfaction that emerged from the survey were the quality of hospital food, the level of privacy and the condition of the premises: 46%, 40% and 31% respectively of respondents rated these aspects as either fair or poor.
The Department said the overall aim of the 2004 survey was to build on the results provided in the 2003 survey. The report indicates public satisfaction levels for primary care, social care, hospital and public health services, as well as the overall satisfaction level with the HPSS.
The survey was based on telephone interviews with a representative sample of 1,500 people in Northern Ireland aged 18 and over.
In addition, 13 discussion groups were held with ‘hard to reach’ client groups.

86,000 Young Trees Culled In Ash Dieback Control
Some 86,000 young trees have been destroyed to prevent the spread of 'Ash Dieback' into the wider environment, according to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. "Over 3,000 site inspections have been carried out since the disease was first found here in November 2012," said Agriculture Minister Michelle O'Neill.
