Youth treated in hospital following bottle attack

Police are appealing for information after a teenager was attacked in north Belfast on Sunday.

The 18-year-old was leaving a friend's house at Berwick Road in the Ardoyne area at around 6.15am when a gang of up to five men approached him and attacked him with a bottle.

The victim was subsequently taken to hospital where he is being treated for serious injuries to his head and face.

Police are trying to establish a motive for the attack, however they do not believe it was sectarian.

Anyone with information on this incident and was in the Stratford Gardens or Berwick Road area of north Belfast is urged to contact detectives on 028 9065 0222 or by using Crimestoppers 0800 555111.

Elsewhere on Sunday, eight Portuguese nationals, including one child, have been rescued from a flat fire following an arson attack in Co Tyrone.

The fire was spotted at the property in Irish Street in Dungannon at around 4.50am by a passing motorist who telephoned the emergency services.

A police spokesman said the attack was being treated as "racially motivated".
