Disabled housing scheme opened in Belfast
An innovative housing development, tailored to the needs of people with profound disabilities, was officially opened in Belfast today.
The £920,000 Hillmount Close development at Finaghy Road South consists of seven purpose-built apartments and a staff facility to provide unobtrusive, sensitive support for residents who also benefit from a wide range of cutting edge SMART and assistive technologies, which enable residents to be as independent as possible.
Hillmount Close is a joint venture between Habinteg Housing Association (Ulster) Ltd and the Cedar Foundation and is supported by funding of £776,00 from the Department for Social Development.
Clive Gowdy, Permanent Secretary at the Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety, commended both the Cedar Foundation and the Habinteg Housing Association for the careful planning which had gone into this development.
"We want to do all we can to support disabled people to live independent lives,” Mr Gowdy said. “This project has made that a reality for the people who will live here. Innovative thinking and the use of new technology have ensured that this accommodation is tailored to the particular needs of the individual residents and will ensure that they enjoy a good quality of life."
Founded in 1977, Habinteg Housing Association is one of 39 registered Housing Associations in Northern Ireland. It provides a wide range of supported housing for people with special needs managed through partnerships with Health and Social Services Trusts and Voluntary Organisations.

Crumlin Social Housing Scheme Opened

Minister Praises North Belfast Housing Project
Social Development Minister Margaret Ritchie MLA has officially handed over keys to the first residents of a £7.3million housing development on Belfast’s Antrim Road today. Built on the site of the former Milk Marketing Board headquarters, the project was led by Oaklee Housing Association and funded by the Department for Social Development.

Brewery To Become New Homes
A new £25m housing scheme has been approved for the old Bass Brewery in west Belfast. Some 166 new homes will be built in what is being billed as one of the largest social housing schemes undertaken in Northern Ireland. It will also create much needed employment - with some 200 on-site jobs boosting the beleaguered construction industry.

Major New Housing Development Scheme In Strabane
Communities Minister Deirdre Hargey has announced that her department has awarded an £11.7 million Housing Association Grant towards a new £22 million social housing scheme in Strabane. The development will provide 150 social homes as well as retail opportunities within the site and a children's playpark.
