Five men arrested following cigarette seizure
Five men have been arrested after more than 500,000 stolen or counterfeit cigarettes were seized by police in the Markets area of Belfast.
The cigarettes were found when officers searched a number of cars in McAuley Street and Friendly Way on Thursday. A quantity of counterfeit DVDs were also seized.
Welcoming the news, Lord Mayor of Belfast, Councillor Tom Ekin said: “The police are to be congratulated on the success of the operation, in taking these goods off the street and apprehending the perpetrators.
“The Council works closely with the Police Service in fighting the scourge of illegal trading, and our joint operations against street traders in particular have seized large quantities of dangerous and counterfeit goods.
“There is no doubt that these operations, which will continue in the run up to Christmas, are helping to make our streets safer for all those who wish to enjoy Belfast’s shopping experience.”

Pedestrian Injured In Belfast Hit-and-Run
The PSNI have issued an appeal for information following a hit-and-run incident in the Botanic Avenue area of Belfast in the early hours of Thursday morning. Officers were called to the scene shortly before 1.30am after a male pedestrian was struck by a maroon Mazda. Despite being injured, the pedestrian left the area before police arrived.

Attempted Carjacking In West Belfast
Police are investigating an attempted carjacking in west Belfast on Tuesday, November 19th. At around 5:30pm, a man entered a parked car at Hillhead Court and attempted to steal it. A woman passenger was assaulted when she resisted the man's demands. The suspect, described as a man in his 20s wearing all black, fled the scene on foot.

Man Dies After Bus Fall In Belfast
Detectives are investigating the death of an 80-year-old man who fell from a bus in Belfast. Police have said that they believe the man was travelling on a 2J Translink Metro bus service at around 11:15am on Friday, 08 November, when he suffered a fall as the bus travelled along Royal Avenue, near it's junction with North Street.
