‘Black Santa’ appeal to break £1m barrier
The ‘Black Santa’ tsunami appeal looks set to break the £1 million barrier, the Dean of Belfast said today.
Dean Houston McKelvey revealed the news on Thursday as more than 40,000 items of clothing were packed into air freight containers at a collection point in Banbridge.
It follows collection points across Northern Ireland sending their assortment of children's wear and underclothes to the church hall in Seapatrick, Co Down before being taken to Dublin for dispatch to Thailand.
Meanwhile, the two sisters who are travelling to Thailand to search for their Co Tyrone brother are to arrive in the country today.
Michelle McCaughey and Darina Duffin plan to stay in Thai resort of Phuket for a week as they search for their 31-year-old brother Conor Keightley who has not been heard from since the tsunami struck on Boxing Day.
