Causeway Coast and Glens area secures top tourism accolade

The Causeway Coast and Antrim Glens has been named one of Britain’s Top 10 Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The popular Northern Ireland tourist destination secured the accolade in the Period Living & Traditional Homes magazine’s Best of British Awards 2004-05.

Over 200,000 readers of this market-leading title were asked to nominate the aspects of traditional British life that they love the best.

Out of the 15 categories, from best stately home to best country pub, readers nationwide cast their votes, which were then whittled down to the top 10.

Don Wilmont, Manager of Causeway Coast and Antrim Glens Ltd, said: “I’m delighted that we have won this accolade. What makes it even better is to know that it was independently voted upon by the readers themselves – individuals who have obviously been so inspired by the outstanding beauty of our region and impressed with our services and facilities that they voted for Causeway Coast and Antrim Glens when choosing a winner for many of the categories.”

The area also produced three other awards in the various categories of these awards. Cushendall was runner up in the Best Village section; Harmony Hill Country House in Ballymoney was runner up in the category of Best Heritage Hotel, and McNultey's of Limavady was runner up in the Best Fish & Chip Shop section.
