Three locations shortlisted for National Stadium
Sports Minister, Angela Smith, today confirmed that three possible locations have been shortlisted for a new National Stadium for Northern Ireland.
The sites at the Maze, North Foreshore and Titanic Quarter were confirmed following a question at today’s Northern Ireland Grand Committee from DUP MP Jeffrey Donaldson.
Responding, the Minister said: “While some preliminary work has been undertaken to identify suitable sites for a Multi-Sports Stadium, no firm decisions can be taken until a detailed economic appraisal and a fully worked-up business case for the Stadium has been completed.
“On the basis of an initial site selection exercise to identify possible suitable locations, three sites have been identified for more detailed consideration. These are the sites at the Maze/Long Kesh, the North Foreshore and the Titanic Quarter.
“I am satisfied that an economic appraisal, including a robust business case for a Stadium, should now be carried out and I have asked officials to put this work in hand.”
Last January, Ms Smith asked the Strategic Investment Board (SIB) to carry out a study to determine whether a Multi-Sports Stadium would be commercially viable and if it would have the full support of soccer, rugby and the GAA.
Since then SIB member, Tony Whitehead has reported back saying all three sports bodies had “all fully co-operated with the business planning exercise”.

Maze Stadium Plan Officially 'Dead'
The Maze Stadium plan is officially cancelled. The Stormont Executive's First Minister and Deputy First Minister today announced that the mooted MLK Masterplan won't now proceed in its original proposed form.

Belfast City Council Stadium Plan Expenditure
Belfast City Council has approved further expenditure of £140,000 on a new business plan to examine building a regional stadium in Belfast. It is reported that Belfast City Council has already spent in the region of £60,000 on the issue of a stadium in the city. Two previous proposals for a stadium at Ormeau Park have been dismissed.

Irish Rugby Announce Autumn Internationals
Ireland are set to face New Zealand in Dublin as part of a series of Autumn Internationals. The team will play Japan, New Zealand and Argentina during their busy autumn schedule at the Aviva Stadium. The Japan tie will kick off the fixtures on Saturday 06 November, followed by New Zealand on Saturday 13 and Argentina on Sunday 21.
