Online calculator to encourage Pension Credit uptake
A new service introduced by the Social Security Agency will allow older people to work out how much better off they could be with Pension Credit.
The service will enable older people to calculate their Pension Credit online through the Agency’s website, www.ssani.gov.uk, by clicking on the Pension Credit icon and from there going to the calculator. Completing a few simple questions allows them to estimate the amount of Pension Credit for which they could qualify.
Encouraging older people to use the new service, Social Security Agency’s NIO Minister, John Spellar, said: “More than 90,000 households in Northern Ireland are already better off because of Pension Credit. This is an impressive figure but there are more people who could and should benefit from this additional money.
“Increasing the take up of benefits is an important priority for the SSA. We are also committed to updating the way that we deliver services to our customers. More older people are becoming internet users or have access via their children and grandchildren and I would encourage them to log on, calculate and apply. It is easy as that and could lead them to be better off.”
To make a claim to Pension Credit call the freephone on 0808 100 6165 or get a claim form online at www.ssani.gov.uk.
