Police target car crime in West Belfast and Lisburn
Police arrested 21 people and recovered 23 vehicles last month in its efforts to cut down car crime in West Belfast and Lisburn figures released today have shown.
The figures for the work of the Auto Crime Team (ACT) also revealed that since its inception in July 2002, 623 arrests have been made and 459 vehicles recovered.
Commenting on the figures, West Belfast District Commander Chief Superintendent David Boultwood said: "Recently, I restated our commitment to tackling the problem of car crime. It remains our number one priority.
“These figures today reflect that commitment and I can assure local communities that I, along with my counterpart in Lisburn, Chief Superintendent Ken Henning, will continue to work to reducing the number of incidents.
“We want to help make West Belfast and Lisburn safer places to live and work. We are working to ensure this and I would ask local communities to work with us."
Senior police officers in both districts said they would be continuing to target those committing car crime in both areas.

Car Crime Unit Stays On Track
There's been a welcome for news that a contentious decision to shut down a dedicated car crime police unit in west Belfast has been overturned. The temporary reprieve follows protests from the victims' group, Families Bereaved through Car Crime who fear more people could be killed by so-called 'joyriders'.

PSNI and victims group team up to tackle car crime
The PSNI's Auto Crime Team and Families Bereaved Through Car Crime have joined forces in an effort to reduce car crime in west Belfast and Dunmurry. Starting today, leaflets promoting the Auto Crime Hotline will be delivered to 35,000 homes in the area.

Second Stolen Saburu Death Revealed
The Stormont Roads Minister has expressed his shock and concern at the toll of road casualties over the past weekend. Edwin Poots was commenting on several deadly incidents, including one in which two men have since died from their injuries and one where a child was knocked down and killed.

NI Lorry Driver Jailed In Connection With £3m Drug Seizure
A 38-year-old man has been jailed in connection with the largest single drug seizure by the PSNI. At Belfast Crown Court, Andrew Stafford pleaded guilty to possession of a Class A drug with intent to supply and possession of a Class B drug with intent to supply.
