Healy declared fit for Canada game

Leeds United striker David Healy will spearhead the Northern Ireland attack tonight when Lawrie Sanchez’s men take on Canada in a friendly at Windsor Park.

The former Preston North End player's fitness had been in doubt for Wednesday night’s game following a recent groin strain. However he came through Tuesday's training session unscathed and has been declared fit for tonight's match.

Keith Gillespie and Mark Clyde have also taken part in training following concerns over a virus and ankle injury respectively.

Northern Ireland go into tonight’s game needing a good performance in order to give them a boost ahead of next month’s big World Cup qualifier against England at Old Trafford.

Four days later they travel to Poland in the hope of reversing September’s 3-0 home defeat in the opening game of this World Cup qualifying series and keeping alive their qualification hopes.

Tonight’s kick-off time is 8pm.

Northern Ireland team to start: M Taylor, C Baird, A Hughes, C Murdock, G McCartney, T Capaldi, J Whitley, S Davis, T Doherty, K Gillespie, D Healy.
