Portavogie teething mixture recalled as precaution

The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency has today issued a recall notice on a medicine sold under the name of ‘The Teething Mixture’ or ‘Portavogie Teething Mixture’.

The medicine, which is produced and distributed in Northern Ireland, has been recalled as a precautionary measure, because it is not suitable for children under two years of age.

A spokesperson for the Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety said: "The mixture is being recalled as a safety precaution. The Department has not received any reports of adverse effects caused by this product, nevertheless, it has been removed from sale and the manufacturers have been advised to take steps to contact all known recipients."

The Teething Mixture/Portavogie Teething Mixture is supplied by Kennedy’s Medical Hall, Portavogie and is sold from a number of registered pharmacies in Northern Ireland.

The mixture contains Alimemazine Tartrate, a sedating antihistamine, which is not recommended for children under two.
