The man was found on waste ground, off Queen Victoria Gardens in the Skegoneill area just after 7pm. It is understood he was assaulted before being shot.

Police have appealed to anyone with information about the incident to contact them at Antrim Road on 028 9065 0222 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Meanwhile, a 27-year-old man is expected to appear at Laganside Magistrates Court on Thursday charged with one count of indecent assault on a female, seven counts of indecent exposure and two counts of resisting police.
