Thousands of NI supporters to miss out on England tickets
Thousands of Northern Ireland football supporters are set to be without tickets for the forthcoming World Cup qualifier against England at Old Trafford because of an “overwhelming demand”, the IFA confirmed today.
The Association confirmed it had been allocated a total of 6,400 tickets for the March 26 game but that this figure would not be enough to satisfy the “phenomenal” interest in the game.
“The interest in this game since the fixtures were announced last January, has been phenomenal,” an IFA spokesperson said. “We are estimating that up to 3,000 Northern Ireland supporters will be unable to obtain tickets for this match due to the huge demand for tickets.”
All applicants will be advised next week whether their application for tickets has been successful for the game. Tickets for the successful applicants will then be available for collection / posting week beginning 14th March.
The English Football Association has already announced that all tickets for home supporters have been sold out.
The game against England is the first in a double World Cup header that will determine Northern Ireland’s chances of qualifying for the 2006 tournament in Germany.
Four days later Lawrie Sanchez’s side travel to Poland looking to avenge their 3-0 defeat in September.
