Police come under attack in Markets area
Police came under attack near Belfast’s Markets area on Tuesday.
Officers responding to a "public disturbance" were targeted with stones and other missiles, as well as a petrol bomb, when they arrived in the area.
Sinn Fein claimed a local teenage boy, who suffered cuts to his nose and bruising to his eyes, had been attacked by loyalists in East Bridge Street and that a police patrol ignored the attack.
Laganbank Sinn Fein Representative Deirdre Hargey said: “This action has now resulted in a very volatile situation locally.”
Traffic was diverted away from the area for a time on Tuesday evening due to the violence.
