Man attacked in sectarian incident
Police believe an assault on a man at his east Belfast home on Monday was sectarian.
The incident occurred at the man’s house in Jocelyn Street at around 1am.
The victim opened the front door of his house where he was confronted by four men dressed in black and armed with sticks.
The gang then dragged the man to his living room where they proceeded to beat him, leaving him with broken ribs as well as bruising and facial injuries.
Police said one of the attackers may have sustained a hand injury and have appealed for anyone with information to contact them.
Elsewhere, a man has sustained head injuries after being attacked in Portrush at the weekend.
The incident occurred a around 3am as the man made his way along Crocknamac Road.
A number of men approached the intended victim before punching and kicking him. The man sustained bruising to the body as well as head and face injuries.
East Londonderry UUP Assembly member Norman Hillis described the attack as “shocking and horrific”.
“This is a most shocking and horrific incident and I would appeal to anyone who may have seen anything to come forward to the police,” he said.
Police investigating the attack have urged witnesses to contact them on Coleraine 028 7034 4122.

Co Antrim Man Found Dead In Ibiza Sustained Head Injuries
A County Antrim man found dead in a hotel room in Ibiza sustained head injuries, according to Ireland's expert State Pathologist. Alan Drennan, 21, was found dead just 24 hours after arriving in Ibiza. Mr Drennan was detained by Spanish police when he arrived on the holiday island, and friends claim that he was attacked by the police.

Man arrested in connection with attempted murder
Police in Armagh have arrested a man on suspicion of attempted murder. The incident happened at around 8pm last night in the Creevroe area of the town. A man was later taken to hospital with injuries to his upper arm. Meanwhile in County Down, a 17-year-old has been attacked twice as he walked through Bangor.

A 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a report of an assault at licenced premises at the Rathfriland Road area of Dromara. Detective Inspector Bell said: "Shortly before 10:10pm on Friday 15th December, it was reported that an altercation occurred at a bar in the area following three men refused entry to the premises.
