Police Ombudsman to investigate shooting

The Police Ombudsman has been called in to investigate an incident in which a police officer fired a shot at a car in west Belfast at the weekend.

The incident in question occurred after police found two people who had been beaten up lying at the side of the street, near the Whiterock Road, at about 8am on Sunday.

In a follow-up investigation, two officers said they were hit by a car at Moyard Parade. In response, the police fired a shot at the vehicle.

Detectives are continuing to question two men about the incident which also saw a third man treated in hospital for serious head injuries after he was attacked with an instrument thought to have been a hammer.

The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.

Man Arrested In Bangor Shooting Investigation
A man has been arrested by detectives investigating the attempted murder of two men in Bangor. The male victims, aged 24 and 33, were shot as they sat in a car in the Eastway area of the Whitehill estate at about 00:45 on 10 February. UTV has reported that the UVF are thought to have been behind the attack.

PSNI Appeal For Information About West Belfast Shooting
The PSNI have appeal for witnesses to or any one with any information about a shooting incident in west Belfast on Wednesday night. A man was shot in the leg at Creeslough Gardens at around 21:30 on Wednesday night. It is understood that victim is in his 40s and his injuries are not life threatening.

Police Appeal For Information To L'Derry Shooting Incident
The PSNI have issued an appeal for information following a shooting incident in L'Derry on Tuesday, 24 July. It is understood the incident began shortly before 7am on Monday, 25 July, when a silver Peugeot rammed a black car near the entrance to Sevenoaks.

Police Probe Shooting Incident
There has been a series of violent incidents across Northern Ireland in the last 24 hours. Most recently, a 38-year-old man was hurt in a north Belfast shooting that happened at Estoril Park at around 3.30am early this morning (Friday). The victim was shot in the hand and leg.
