Three charged in illegal dumping enquiry

Three people have appeared in court today charged with 81 offences relating to illegal dumping, money laundering and theft.

Cyril Anthony McGuinness, 40, Teemore Road, Derrylin, Co Fermanagh, faces 48 charges, while his wife Mary Josephine McGuinness, 44, faces 19 charges.

A third accused, Cormac Owen McCaffrey, 32, Curryann Road, Maguiresbridge, faces 14 charges.

All three, who deny the charges, were refused bail at Strabane Magistrates Court on Thursday.

The charges follow an intelligence-led investigation against a high level criminal gang operating across the province.

Yesterday, three other people arrested in connection to the PSNI investigation were released. Police confirmed that one received bail and another two had been released pending reports.

Eighteen searches have been conducted in the Fermanagh, North Antrim and Belfast areas, as well as Derbyshire in England.

A quantity of cash was also seized during the searches as well as illegal plant machinery and an illegal diesel laundering plant.

Over 150 officers have been involved in the operation, including detectives from the Crime Operations Department, uniformed officers and specialist search teams.
