Car bomb left outside Lisburn civic centre
A “crude but viable” car bomb was left outside a crowded civic centre in Co Antrim on Thursday night.
The device was left in a car outside Lisburn's Lagan Valley Island Civic Centre as around 350 cast and audience members took part in a musical inside.
The alert began shortly after 8pm when police were warned that a bomb would explode in 25 minutes.
Those inside were immediately evacuated as army bomb experts moved into dismantle the device and remove it for further examination.
The area remained cordoned off until 8.30am on Friday.
Police have appealed for anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity to contact them on 028 9065 0222.
Elsewhere in Co Antrim, bomb-making equipment was found by the police during house searches in Bushmills on Thursday.
A blank firing pistol and other items which police said could be of use to terrorists, including a balaclava and combat style clothing, were found during the operation.
It is understood that the searches were part of a police investigation into loyalist paramilitary activity in the area, but no arrests were made.
