Invest NI hold migrant employee seminar
Invest NI has held an awareness seminar in Co Tyrone for companies employing migrant workers.
The event, which took place at Cohannon Inn & Autolodge, Dungannon, was part of Western Enterprise Week and focused on the Code of Practice for the employment of migrant workers.
“With so many companies in the area relying on migrant workers to provide labour it is important to ensure employers are aware of the difficult issues faced by migrants and their responsibilities to these employees,” Invest NI’s Patricia Devine said.
“We brought together a range of speakers who looked at everything from the practicalities of employing migrant workers, such as applying for work permits, to equality issues.”
At the seminar Denise Cranston of Business in the Community looked at a Code of Practice for employing migrant workers while Daniel Holder, the project manager of Animate Projects, a strategic interagency project working on migrant worker equality issues with a focus on public service delivery, covered the challenges that face migrant workers and how employers can encourage a positive two-way relationship.
The week ends with the Western Start a Business Show on Friday and Saturday in Omagh Leisure Centre.

One third of enquiries received by Dungannon CAB over the last three months are employment related and many of these clients are migrant workers.
