Two arrested following weapons find
Police have arrested two people after weapons and ammunition were found in north Belfast on Tuesday.
An AK47 rifle with live ammunition, a handgun and other items “that may be of use to terrorists” were recovered by officers following police searches in the Shankill Road area of the city.
Chief Superintendent Mike Little, DCU Commander, said the searches made it clear that paramilitary or criminal activity in North Belfast would not be tolerated.
“The community in North Belfast are telling us that they do not want to live in the shadows of paramilitary organisations,” Mr Little said. “My officers are committed to eradicating the scourge of paramilitaries in this area and we will continue to work to make North Belfast a safer place to live.”
