Health trust promises to restore public confidence
Management at a troubled health trust have said they are determined to restore public confidence in their services following a damning report by an NHS review team.
Sperrin Lakeland Trust chief executive Hugh Mills stood down on Thursday following the report by the NHS Clinical Governance Support Team whose recent assessment highlighted a series of shortcomings in how things were done including inadequate staffing levels at the trust's hospitals in Tyrone County hospital and Erne Hospital in Enniskillen.
Speaking on Friday, Medical Director Dr Diana Cody said: "There are a lot of criticisms in the report which are being levelled at Sperrin Lakeland Trust. We are committed to patient safety, to providing a good quality of care for our patients and staff welfare.
"And given those three parameters, we plan to use this document in a very positive way. We want to use it to build on our services.”
Sperrin Lakeland Health and Social Care Trust (SLT) currently provides services to a around 121,000 in the Tyrone and Fermanagh areas.
In early 2005 the Trust commissioned members from the NHS Clinical Governance Support Team to perform a comprehensive risk and governance review of acute hospital services within the Trust.
