Wallace out of Ireland rugby squad for Japan
Ulster back Paddy Wallace has been forced to withdraw from the Ireland rugby squad which is due to tour Japan next month, due to a broken bone in his right hand.
The IRFU's official website revealed that the 25-year-old's place in the travelling party would now go to former Munster utility back Jeremy Staunton.
Wallace, who is likely to be out for four weeks, sustained the injury in Friday's trial match at Wanderers FC, Dublin where he kicked two conversions before being replaced late in the first half.
A 2003 World Cup squad member, Wallace made a telling contribution to the Ireland 'A' side in their 15-9 victory over France 'A' at Donnybrook in March.
The revised Ireland squad, which is coached by Niall O'Donovan, will train tomorrow morning at the University of Limerick.
The full travelling squad is named on the IRFU website at www.irishrugby.ie
