Minister welcomes Irish Language Broadcast Fund approval
Culture, Arts and Leisure Minister David Hanson has welcomed the European Commission’s (EC) approval for the Irish Language Broadcast Fund to proceed.
The fund of £12 million, over five years, will deliver at least 90 hours of Irish language broadcasting per year, to an audience of 25,000 people in Northern Ireland. It will also enable at least 15 people to be trained each year in production and broadcasting skills.
The Minister said: "I am pleased that the way has now been cleared for the Irish Language Broadcast Fund to begin to process applications it has already received.
"EC State Aids clearance, announced this morning, allows us to deliver on the commitment given in both the Good Friday Agreement 1998 to encourage and provide financial support for the Irish language film and TV production and in the Joint Declaration made by the two Governments in 2003.”
Mr Hanson said that further details would be announced in due course.
