South Tyrone homes to get fresh water supply
A new project to help connect the water supply to 25 homes in the South Tyrone area has been launched.
The scheme will address the issue of unconnected rural properties by targeting support to 25 local homes, in a bid to increase the overall ‘fitness of habitation’ for housing in the Dungannon area.
Commenting on the plans, Vince McKevitt, Head of Programme for Building Sustainable Prosperity, DARD, said: "This programme addresses local need for access to services.
“It will help us develop an understanding of issues and barriers which cause people from disadvantaged rural communities to suffer disproportionately more from a lack of access to services."
The South Tyrone Area Partnership (STAP), a Local Strategic Partnership, is leading this project, which is funded by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD), through the European Union’s Programme for Building Sustainable Prosperity.
It has been developed in response to research findings that 355 properties (2.6% of the Dungannon population) are not connected to the public water supply.
